Ballymena Area Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently hosted a highly insightful business engagement event at the Adair Arms Hotel, where local members had the opportunity to meet with Gillian Anderson, Agent for Northern Ireland at the Bank of England.

Ballymena Area Chamber of Commerce extends its thanks to,
Malcolm Beattie, Rebecca Edmondson, Julie Kitson, Finlay Robinson, Ali MacCorkell, and Mark Taggart for taking time out of their busy schedules to contribute their valuable insights.

Economic Insights from the Bank of England

The meeting brought together Chamber members from a diverse range of business sectors to discuss current economic conditions and the outlook for interest rates in the months ahead.

During the session, Gillian Anderson outlined the Bank’s perspective on the UK economy, noting that recent global developments—including ongoing tensions in the Middle East—have contributed to increased economic uncertainty and shifting forecasts.

A key highlight from the discussion was the most recent meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee, which resulted in a unanimous decision to hold interest rates at their current level. Gillian emphasised that unanimous votes within the Committee are relatively rare, underlining the significance of this decision in the current economic climate.

Local Business Voices Inform National Policy

In addition to sharing insights, the session provided an invaluable platform for Ballymena Chamber members to voice their own experiences and concerns.

Gillian Anderson actively listened to feedback from attendees and confirmed that these real-world business perspectives will be incorporated into her report to the Monetary Policy Committee—ensuring that Northern Ireland’s business community continues to play a role in shaping national economic discussions.
