2014 Business Awards Launch

The 2014 Ballymena Borough Business Excellence Awards were launched at a reception in the Braid on Thursday 21st August. This is the 12th year of the awards which are organised annually by Ballymena Borough Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Ballymena Borough Council is the principal sponsor for this year’s awards.

President of Ballymena Chamber of Commerce & Industry Alan Stewart was joined by Mayor of Ballymena Cllr Audrey Wales MBE, Chamber members and guests at Thursday’s launch of the 12th annual Business Excellence Awards at The Braid. Back row, L-R, Ian Paisley MP, Rodney Kernohan (Business Development Manager, BBCCI), Cllr Hubert Nicholl (Deputy Mayor of Ballymena), Roger McKnight (Acting Chief Executive of Ballymena Borough Council). Front L-R, Catherine Scott (Insight Mystery Shopping), Cllr Audrey Wales MBE, Alan Stewart, Alison Moore (Chamber of Commerce).

Chamber President Alan Stewart welcomed everyone to the reception.

He said “This is the 12th year that Chamber has organised the awards – little did we think that when we organised the first awards in 2003 that they would become such an important and prestigious event. Just looking around this morning, this is the largest attendance I remember at an awards launch – this demonstrates that the interest in the Business Awards is stronger than ever.  These awards help to celebrate the huge contribution made by our business community. The economic environment has been very tough in the last year, and these awards show the commitment of individuals and the business excellence that exists in the Borough.

I would like to thank Ballymena Borough Council for agreeing to be principal sponsor once again this year. Council has always been a great supporter of both the awards and Chamber in general and the working relationship between Council and Chamber is stronger now than it has ever been. I assure you that Chamber will do everything to make this year’s awards the most successful yet. I would like to thank all other businesses who have sponsored awards or taken an advertisement in the awards brochure – without your support there would be no awards.

The judging this year will again be carried out by Insight Mystery Shopping – it is entirely independent of Chamber thereby ensuring the integrity of the awards.

I encourage all businesses in the Borough to enter the awards this year – there are 21 categories so there is an award to suit everyone. I look forward to seeing you all at the Gala evening”.

The Mayor of Ballymena, Cllr. Audrey Wales MBE said  “As Mayor of Ballymena, I am delighted to have been invited to speak at today’s launch of Ballymena Business Awards, the purpose of which is to demonstrate the commitment to excellence shown by many of the businesses within the Borough of Ballymena.

As principal sponsor of the Awards, Ballymena Borough Council remains committed to ensuring that each and every business within the Borough is provided with the assistance and support to grow and prosper ensuring the future prosperity of Ballymena. Council recognises the significant benefits commerce brings to an area and as a Council we lead the way in working in partnership with local businesses to bring mutual benefits to our Borough.
