Nampak Plastics specialises in the manufacture of high density polyethylene (HDPE) milk and juice bottles, primarily for the dairy industry. The company is one of the UK’s leading plastic milk bottle manufacturers and currently produces 2 billion bottles annually. Nampak leads the field in sustainable milk packaging through the inclusion of up to 30% recycled material (rHDPE) in all the milk bottles it manufactures in the UK and Ireland.

Nampak opened an in-plant – where plastic milk bottles are taken direct ‘through the wall’ from the manufacturing process to the dairy filling line – at Dale Farm’s Pennybridge dairy in Ballymena in 2010. This facility also supports Nampak’s development plans for sales to the wider market in Ireland. The in-plant facility has the capacity to make more than 100 million bottles a year. The project brings skilled jobs to the community and has created 23 jobs to date. The site achieved BRC/ IOP and ISO 9001 standards after only 5 months production.

Locating the bottle manufacturing and filling in the same location limits the need for transporting bottles and provides considerable reductions in carbon emissions
