Business Awards Launch 2013

The 2013 Ballymena Borough Business Excellence Awards were launched at a reception in the Braid on Wednesday 31st July. This is the 11th year of the awards which are organised annually by Ballymena Borough Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Ballymena Borough Council is the principal sponsor for this year’s awards.

L-R: Alison Moore (Chamber of Commerce), Thomas McKillen (Chamber President), Anne Donaghy (Chief Executive and Town Clerk), Chris Wales (Chamber of Commerce) and Mayor Cllr. Audrey Wales MBE

Chamber President Thomas McKillen welcomed everyone to the reception.

He said “This is the 11th year that Chamber has organised the awards – little did we think that when we organised the first awards in 2003 that they would become such an important and prestigious event. Just looking around this morning, this is the largest attendance I remember at an awards launch – this demonstrates that the interest in the Business awards is stronger than ever.  These awards help to celebrate the huge contribution made by our business community. The economic environment has been very tough in the last year, and these awards show the commitment of individuals and the business excellence that exists in the Borough.

I would like to thank Ballymena Borough Council for agreeing to be principal sponsor once again this year. Council has always been a great supporter of both the awards and Chamber in general and the working relationship between Council and Chamber is stronger now than it has ever been. I assure you that Chamber will do everything to make this year’s awards the most successful yet. I would like to thank all other businesses who have sponsored awards or taken an advertisement in the awards brochure – without your support there would be no awards.

The judging this year will again be carried out by Insight Mystery Shopping – it is entirely independent of Chamber thereby ensuring the integrity of the awards.

I encourage all businesses in the Borough to enter the awards this year – there are 21 categories so there is an award to suit everyone. I look forward to seeing you all at the Gala evening”.

As principal sponsor of the Awards, Ballymena Borough Council is fully committed to creating the environment that commerce can operate in. Ballymena can be place for business excellence and we are proud to be home for some great globally recognised organisations. The economic climate only makes us more determined to collaborate jointly and dovetail our strategies and plans together for the benefit of our local people. Such partnership working can assist and support the growth and prosperity, both now and in the future, for our people and our place – Ballymena.

Under the leadership of our Chief Executive, Anne Donaghy, who has played a pivotal role in both developing and delivering a real Economic agenda in the Borough, Ballymena Borough Council’s Corporate Plan 2012-2016 focuses on creating jobs, increasing skills and education, growing our local economy, improving health and wellbeing of our citizens, delivering quality, value for money services and continuing to invest in a strong and shared future for the people and place of the Borough of Ballymena.  This clearly indicates our commitment to Ballymena, making it a great place to be.
